This course focuses primarily on improving students’ fluency and accuracy on speaking and listening of spoken discourse in academic contexts. IKW 104 Listening & Speaking in Academic Context Upon completion of this course, students are expected to develop the knowledge and skills to use English grammar meaningfully and contextually.Ģ. In accordance with these approaches, the methods will include analyzing semantic and pragmatic aspects of the target forms and raising learners’ awareness through tasks and discussions. The main approaches employed in this course are cognitively and sociocognitively oriented, which are distinct from previous approaches. The course is still focused on four basic features of the English language: nouns, verbs, modals, and prepositions. This course is designed to build the English grammar skills of pre-intermediate level students in the English department in order to prepare them for their academic work in English. Melalui mata kuliah ini, mahasiswa diajak untuk mengkaji dan mengkritisi tujuan, arah, asas, landasan, prinsip dan sistem pendidikan di Indonesia. Diharapkan agar sebagai pelaku global di dalam dan bersama dunia, mahasiswa ikut berkontribusi bagi pembangunan yang damai dan berkelanjutan dengan memfasilitasi setiap perbedaan untuk mencapai kualitas hidup yang berkelanjutan dan lebih baik, terutama produk pendidikan yang mandiri dan berguna. Nilai-nilai positif ini akan menciptakan kesatuan dan saling ketergantungan antarindividu dalam sebuah masyarakat yang menghargai keragaman budaya, keadilan sosial dan hak asasi manusia. Mata kuliah ini bertujuan membangun pemahaman, kesadaran dan partisipasi mahasiswa sebagai bagian dari penduduk dunia yang ikut bertanggung jawab meningkatkan dan menerapkan nilai-nilai positif melalui pendidikan. By the end of this course, it is also expected that students will enhance their reading fluency and develop their habit of reading fiction. To achieve this goal, students have to pick their own reading materials on fiction such as short stories, read them on their own outside the classroom, and present to the class what they learn from and think of the stories they have read. Fiction is selected as a focus in this course as it consists of everyday language and interesting stories. The overarching goal of this course is to build up students’ language competence in general.

This course aims at enhancing students’ reading skills and strategies as well as developing their competence in how to write good sentences and transform them into a paragraph with clear organization and coherence. In addition, students are expected to incorporate critical thinking when expressing ideas.ģ. By the end of this course, the students are able to communicate confidently, fluently and accurately in non-formal settings by applying appropriate listening and speaking strategies. This course is aimed at developing students’ basic listening and speaking abilities through various types of activities in everyday contexts.
IKW 103 Listening & Speaking Fundamentals
In addition to providing learners with grammar learning strategies, the course will equip them with communication strategies that can help them use the taught grammar meaningfully and communicatively beyond the classroom, which is the main goal of this course.Ģ. The learning tasks are learner-centered and designed to raise learners’ awareness of the target structures. Learners will be guided to figure out the meanings and functions of the target structures as well as the formations of the structures. Grammar Fundamentals is designed to present learners with basic grammar in natural contexts along with natural communicative speaking and writing learning tasks.
